Their tutor Phillipa Brock invited me to head another 'live' project. This year we decided on the theme of Jet Set, so the students were instructed to design fabrics for jackets, trousers and man bags that would travel well. I asked the group to keep it TE-centric, and produce fabrics that would sit as part of our Bespoke Casual collection.
Douglas Cordeaux of Fox Brothers and Lindsay Taylor from Holland & Sherry also judged this year's project with me.
Without further ado, I'm proud to announce this years winners thus:
(Drum roll please...)
Jane Brooke is our overall winner. She designed some fantastic windowpane check tweeds, basing her collection around the urban cyclist. Her target customer was Alan Sugar. Jane will have her fabric woven into both a milled and worsted fabric by both fabric mills...
Irina Khadzhyshvili won the Holland & Sherry prize. Her theme was British Africa, with a target customer of Colin Firth...
Yangzi Wang is Fox Brothers' winner, with Tim Roth her target customer...
We chose Kate Richardson and Sian O'Flaherty as the Timothy Everest winners, and they will both be joining my design team for internships. Kate chose Ewan Mcgregor cycling in the Long Way Round as her inspiriation...
...while Sian had the Italian Job...
As we've done in previous years, the students will have their winning cloths woven into full lengths of fabric, which we'll then make into some exciting products. Watch this space...
